Quick Announcement: Comment Policy

Posted by ShangXian - 2 days ago

A really, really quick news post. Due to recent number of accounts spamming Discord links in order to prevent Newgrounds death (the Discord seems real but mostly a troll/prank in nature according to this blog), I decided to approve all comments I'll get in order to further filter these types of comments since I don't want my fans or random readers to click those links. And starting from now on, all comments will be approved for future blogs too. Sorry for the inconvenience but I would like to keep my friends, acquaintances and random readers a bit safe. And please DO NOT click any random link from random users, ignore, report to Tom or send an email to Newgrounds' support, here the link https://www.newgrounds.com/wiki/contact-us, block.

The only annoying thing is for those posts I sometimes put in the frontpage, because those require real-time comments. I will try to avoid it unless it's something vital or very important to share with more people.

UPDATE 31/08/2025: now even previous blog posts have approved comments only as comment settings. I'm going through all my blogs just to be safe, but those that have been posted on the frontpage of the site will still have the real-time comment option because it can't be changed as they need real-time comments.

i've been getting the bots too! i don't really even understand it, because Newgrounds definitely isn't dying anytime soon.

Probably just a way to troll/prank people as others, who joined those servers, have pointed out.

@Reds-Boyfried No, my dear friend, that was real trolling.

Whoever runs the bots is probably a fat bastard on his basement who just lost his girlfriend

Someone who has too much free time that might be spent in something more productive even on Internet. Oh well, as long as you don't click on the links, ignore them.

No need to apologize, Shang. It's perfectly understandable, and a very clever decision from your part in fact. You're basically screwing up the unique purpose of those mindless, hateful spam bots (which is, ironically, write spam comments) and keeping the comments sections of your news posts polished and safe for their visitors (both your friends and the rest of the site users) with the simplest method possible.

It might get a little annoying with time for you to have to approve every single comment you get though, but I guess that as long that this "bot-raid"-thing is a problem, this is the most effective (and also probably only) way to prevent it.

The only drawback for this decision is for those blogs I need to put in the frontpage when something important or vital needs to be addressed or spread in terms of awareness like I did with scam-related posts. In that case I need to keep real-time comments by default if I want to feature my blog.

Other than this, this decision will prevent future spam comments with much more malicious intent from poisoning my comment section, because while I am wary of links, other people might not and curiosity might kill the cat (and sometimes it's not pleasant the metaphorical meaning of this saying). I said malicious intent, because according to this comment these people seem a bunch of kids wanting as many people as possible in their server. It's basically a huge spam operation, here the link to the forum comment: https://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1549143/2#bbspost28136515_post_text

If you want a server with lots of members, then you are failing at this because people are not interested and spamming this way only makes them less inclined to click on it once the truth comes out.

Can't blame you, Shang - spambots are a fucking menace.

They are pretty annoying like these ones, but some can be even more dangerous since malicious links can be hidden behind a legit Discord/Youtube or any other known website link. This is why I have to be extra cautious, especially towards my fans, friends and people in general who might encounter my blogs.

You know, it makes me think: why do some people join these servers, like "oh, some noname dude with a zero account posted a link to the random server, I think I'll join".

Anyway, limit comments to "approved only" is a great decision, imma change it to that now too I guess, for safety of readers <33

Sometimes curiosity kills the cat, other times the wish to test things and see what lies beyond the wall, other times it can just be naivetés which is pretty dangerous for one's safety.

Yeah, approving comments can be a nice solution against these things, only thing I have to get used to is understanding how to make the approval quick because every time I click on "Approve" it doesn't immediately approve it. Yesterday instead, comments were approved instantly after I clicked on "Approve".

Goddammit, there's no place where the bots will leave us alone...if the Internet was Central America, the bots & amateur hackers would be the mosquitoes.

Oh well, if you gotta screen comments... 🤷🏼‍♂️ We all do what we have to.

Frankly I respect way more mosquitoes than these people because at least these insects adapted and put effort in their evolutionary race and biological adaptation. Not all mosquitoes suck blood though and all mosquitoes feed on nectar too, meaning they are even more useful than these people who simply leech off their miserable lives. While female mosquitoes require blood for reproduction, the primary food source for both male mosquitoes and non-reproducing female mosquitoes is sugary liquids. These include flower nectar, plant sap, and honeydew secreted by other insects. This sugar-rich diet provides energy for daily activities like flying and basic metabolic functions.

In the process of feeding on flower nectar, mosquitoes inadvertently transfer pollen from one bloom to another, serving as pollinators. While they may not be as well-known for this role as bees or butterflies, mosquitoes contribute to the reproduction of various plants, including certain orchids, grasses, and goldenrods. And this is why I respect mosquitoes more than these people, despite ofc I immediately kill on sight, due to sanitary reasons, sucking blood reproducing females.

These people are just plain annoying and now to protect my fans, friends and random readers I prefer to set as approved comments only all my previous blogs minus those I had to feature in the frontpage because they are vital to spread awareness in some topics.
