This is really helpful for those who don't know.
Thank you! I thought it was important to give an input to those who are still unfamiliar with this concept not always easily understandable. I'm very glad if it's helpful, that's what I am aiming for.
Dang. That was really interesting, I like the way you explained really clearly of what it deserved to get blammed. I Hope those kids and those people learned what videos deserved to be in. Usually I tend to leave short reviews when the entry is on the verge of death. You will more often see my reviews around July 19 to today. My most reviews I left are mostly on November and December 2024. I was a soft person leaving one star on my first blam review but now since on January where people became aware of the new 2.0 rules, I always 0 rate it out of spite. Back then in 2023 and 2024: the savers were 4 stars to 2 stars while the blammers leave a one star or half.
But now it’s the 5 bombers vs the 0 bombers. Is like only one like button and one dislike button, and it’s very rare to see me rate 1 star to avoid getting the entry accidentally passed. Anyways I hope your blam points increase faster than mines. Cheers (No reply necessary, just leave a happy face after you read this)
What is a blam?
A miserable pile of secrets!
LMAO, beautiful definition!
Thank you so much for this super helpful guide!
You are welcome! I hope in future to gain even more experience in other elements of the site in order to write guides like this. Next objective: whistle points.
Uhhh, idk know what this geek talk is about, but does this work in the art portal as well?
No, as stated in the guide this touches only movies and games which you can find in the Portal section of the website or by scrolling down the page, go under EXTRA, EXTRA! and click on "Classic Portal". I prefer to click on "Portal" at the top of the page, it's more intuitive and user-friendly.
Blams and protect points are gained only by voting on UJ (Under Judgement) movies/games. I think this is due to the fact NG was originally intended for movie/game-wise creativity. Art Portal will only be introduced in 2009, while Audio Portal was the second Portal opened on Newgrounds, in 2003. The first Portal is Movie Portal or better Flash Portal made in 1999.
Art portal votes only affect your base vote (this applies to audio, already judged movies and games too). For example your voting power is 5.26 but your B/P bonus is 0% so if you multiply your vote power by 0.00 you will get 0
5.26 X 0.00= 0
then if you sum this to 5.26 (your vote power) you will still get 5.26 because there is no additional value. B/P bonus is just a number that increases and strengthens your voting power, making more incisive a submission's vote (regardless of the type or status).
Of course you are not obliged to grind your voting power, the beauty of Newgrounds is that everyone can interpret and experience the site as one wishes the most. In fact this guide is intended for those who wish to be more impactful in terms of voting in order to create a more dynamic, creative but also selective environment.
Hope this helps, in case of questions don't hesitate to ask.
This is excellent. Clear. Details. I remember trying to find out more about this when I first joined and just couldn't wrap my head around it and gave up XD
This makes it a lot easier and concise. Awesome guide, thank you for sharing it! :D
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it and found it useful. That's what I aim for with these guides because there are still aspects of the site that are not fully clear not even taking a look at the help page or forum threads.
The guide might be updated in future if I find something worthy of being shared or someone corrects me or gives me more info. I plan to write other guides similar to this one in future. Next objective: whistle points.
@ShangXian oh that's a bit disappointing since I barely ever look at movies or games. Thank you for your time, blessings!
No problem, it was a pleasure to give more info.
The reason for this are mainly two: 1) each Portal has different rules, Art and Music are not that restrictive in terms of judgment minus the undiscovered artists/musicians section but still you can post your low-effort artwork/music without fearing to see it disappearing from the site, 2) Newgrounds was originally intended for flash movies and games, art and music came then.
Even the rating rules for adult stuff are different in the movie/game Portal compared to art/music Portal.
Movies and games are a different level of art, creativity, skills and talent so the requirements are higher than art and music and I agree with this because I've always considered videogames the ultimate form of art: they combine the plot and story line typical of movies, visual effects typical of visual arts and the musical aspects of music theory. And everything is dynamic since you play the game and see the progression before your eyes (not necessary a story, a game is not required to have a story).
And keep in mind that in the past B/P grinders were a lot more brutal in voting stuff.
Wow. Amazing work here. I appreciate the meticulous effort you have put in every detail of this guide (you have even provided information of the Obituaries section - which although it's not that important, it's still useful to know where all the blammed stuff goes, so you can easily identify it in case it gets reuploaded). I'm proud to see the improvement on your "judging" skills, truly.
I have been thinking of making a similar guide (though about flagging submissions - i.e, what is flagging, what are the types of content you might have to watch out for, how to flag the content...), but I'm not entirely if it would be as good (and as useful) as this one.
Thank you, it means a lot reading this, considering how passionate you are about this site and about making it a better place for everyone. I wanted to cover everything I could understand, gather as information and personal experience in order to make it as user-friendly as possible with a bit of silliness by drawing my OC on the site XD
I will do for future guides too since I had lots of fun drawing silly things (I may feature different OCs of mine). In future I plan to talk about flagging and especially whistle points since it's a topic not fully covered. But because I have yet to understand the math behind whistle points I need time before making it. I will try to keep track of how many flags I need before leveling up my whistle points (I will start from now because I flagged some stuff but I lost track of the number). But as I said I need time because I want to give an exhaustive guide for people like me who are trying to fully understand how the site works.
In the far future, if I am still active here, I would like to gather some info about the archeology of the site and see how it was in the past even when it comes to voting, flagging and so on, because I liked to discover the fav cap limit in the past years and how it increased over the decades. But this requires digging up the past forum threads.
i couldve sworn this was uploaded by somebody else a long ass time ago
not complain ing that there is a modern version ofc
It's very likely that someone before I joined the site made a guide about it. I know there are games about them, whistle points and other stuff related to NG and I've played them all. Part of my current knowledge is based on those games, but most of my knowledge is a mix of reads across forum threads, wikia pages and my personal experience. Plus it's nice to have an updated version of the same subject since this site evolved a lot in these 30 years. Basic concepts remain but the dynamics may change.
If originally 100 votes were needed to blam a submission that got 1.75 score, now it's been reduced to 60 vote to blam a 2 star vote submission. This is just an example, or the fav cap limit which was 100-200 at the beginning of the Portal, then it got gradually increased. Thank you, glad you enjoyed the read.

Damn, I actually didn't knew this :0
Thx 4 dis awesum guide! :D
ShangXian
You are welcome! I still have lots to learn about them and if in future I find/discover other things and my experience in the field increases I will update info. Well, now you know but take your time to fully digest these info because it takes time to understand and put them in practice. It took me more than a year to full grasp the basics of B/P because I tend to vote almost every day.
